Spotlight Session: How Will Georgia Count Votes in 2026? We are hosting an optional spotlight session on Monday at 4 PM ET to address confounding developments in Georgia concerning the uncertainty around how votes will be tabulated. This will be an informational session focused on a critical and unresolved issue: ➡️ What is Georgia's looming vote-counting problem? Georgia, with high-profile statewide races—including a closely watched U.S. Senate contest—currently faces significant uncertainty regarding its voting system framework. A law enacted two years ago specifically prohibits the continued use of QR codes as the method of official vote tabulation The statutory deadline for compliance is July 1, 2026 Funding for the new voting system the law requires has not been provided, nor is the required new system on the market. The General Assembly adjourned without resolving how votes will be counted in November. This issue has drawn national attention and remains unresolved. Election security advocates, including Coalition for Good Governance, have proposed utilizing Georgia’s existing backup paper ballot system using hand-marked ballots counted by scanners, which is already authorized in law. However, there is currently no consensus or clear path forward. This session will explore: The risks associated with unresolved system decisions Why simply postponing the July 1 deadline does not resolve underlying issues What stakeholders and advocates need to understand moving forward

About this event We can’t overstate the importance of flipping the House to put a check on Trump. Nationwide, there are only 17 tossup races – and the party that wins the majority of these will very likely control the House. Pennsylvania has three of these races, making it, once again, a keystone state. Join us and our co-hosts by Zoom on May 4 at 5 PM EDT to learn how you can help Dems win in Pennsylvania. Co-hosts currently include Allies for Democracy, Be the Change, Chop Wood-Carry Water, and Third Act Maryland. Paige Cognetti, the feisty mayor of Scranton, will give us an insider’s view of the battle for House control. She’s running a strong campaign to unseat a Republican in PA-08. Learn more about her in this NY Times profile. We’ll also hear from Joanna McClinton, the dynamic Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. She’s a leader in the campaign to expand the House’s current one-seat majority. A Democratic statehouse in PA will help ensure that elections in the Keystone State are free and fair in 2028. Our Pennsylvania grassroots ally, Make the Road Action PA, will turn out essential votes for both state and federal candidates. Co-director Diana Robinson will join us to share the 2026 strategy for empowering underrepresented communities and inspiring them to vote in November. As always, we’ll give you our latest advice on the most meaningful ways to volunteer and donate to defend democracy – and to flip the House in 2026. All are welcome. Sign up today and bring a friend! |

The fight for democracy is being won—and challenged—state by state. Join BigTentUSA—at a new time—Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30pm ET for a dynamic virtual conversation with Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and New Mexico’s Doña Ana County Clerk Amanda López Askin—two leaders who have stood on the frontlines of protecting free and fair elections. Amanda López Askin is running for Secretary of State in New Mexico and has successfully defended her office’s work against denialism, extremism, and repeated legal challenges. Jocelyn Benson has done the same in Michigan—and now brings that fight to her campaign for Governor. Together, they’ll break down the real challenges election officials face, what it takes to safeguard elections at the state level, and how individuals can take action to support election integrity in their own communities. Democracy doesn’t defend itself—be part of the effort to protect it where it matters most. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: Amanda López Askin is a public servant rooted in New Mexico, raised in Las Cruces by a hardworking single mother who relied on assistance and public housing. She became a therapist, helping children in foster care, before serving as Doña Ana County Clerk. In that role, she leads with fairness and compassion, ensuring election integrity while combating misinformation and protecting election workers. Now running for Secretary of State, Amanda is focused on keeping elections safe and secure, expanding voter access and education, increasing campaign finance transparency, and supporting small businesses by streamlining licensing processes across the state. Jocelyn Benson is Michigan’s 43rd Secretary of State and a Democratic candidate for governor. Raised in a working-class family by two special education teachers, she was shaped by values of hard work, opportunity, and service. Since 2019, she has transformed Michigan’s motor vehicle services, improving efficiency with 150+ convenient self-service stations, while strengthening election security and access. In the face of threats to both herself and her colleagues, she oversaw two of the highest-turnout, transparent elections in state history. Benson is running for governor to expand efficient, accessible public services, lower costs for working families, and invest in education, housing, child care, health care, and economic development for all. |
