Start Preparing Voters for Long Lines & Other Difficulties

Being aware of what might happen is half the battle. Let's make sure we start explaining to people how important their vote is.

Changing Hearts & Minds

People do not like what is going on.
Public opinion is changing, but we still have to learn how to talk to each other, how to listen to each other, and encourage people to become civically engaged.
We are reaching out to people to listen, provide information, and overcome the apathy that their vote doesn’t matter.
Years of research have shown that face-to-face conversations with voters at the door are the single most effective way to influence election outcomes.

Gallup finds that Independents who are democrat-leaning are growing! Democratic-leaning independents are 10% higher than Republican-leaning independents.

This is especially important because more people are identifying as independents! Especially among younger voters (56% for Gen Z and 47% for Gen X).

Voters are most concerned about affordability (84 percent) healthcare (75 percent), democracy (75 percent), and corruption (72 percent).

Have You Heard About Ground Truth?

The FEC changed rules last year to allow outside groups to coordinate with political campaigns. Swing Left jumped on that opportunity and created Ground Truth.
This new pilot program reaches out to all potential voters early in the election cycle to hear one-on-one what someone's concerns are and then provides that feedback to candidates.

Ground Truth talks to ALL voters – not just super democrats who are likely to vote. No more “preaching to the choir.” Ground Truth is knocking on every door to listen to what people care about.

Ground Truth is working on a year-round canvassing program to help form relationships with potential voters and conduct follow-up on their interests and concerns.

Ground Truth is set up to really listen to people’s thoughts and opinions and communicate those back to candidates so they can build a responsive platform that meets people where they are.

Results and feedback have been very positive! Two-thirds of the people who open the door talk to canvassers for at least 10 minutes, and even 1 in 4 Republicans show openness to Democrats or express concern about Trump.

The Republican party has a 3 seat edge in the House. Swing Left has identified 19 Republican House seats that are likely to flip and 11 Democratic House seats that need to be defended.

The Democratic Party has identified 27 Republican House seats they think are winnable.

Get Ready for Making Calls!

Cold calling people to talk politics can be a challenge.

Elizabeth Chur solves those problems! She offers excellent advice on how to connect with people who may not want to “talk politics” and how to give a few ‘shakes of empathy’ to make your calls a positive experience.

Author of The Joy of Talking Politics with Strangers, Elizabeth wrote a comprehensive guidebook that helps volunteers connect one-on-one with voters – our most powerful tool for winning elections. These conversations can also spark unexpected moments of empathy and even kinship with our fellow Americans.

Protect the Vote

Voter suppression is not new. Groups and organizations are in place with legal teams and hotlines throughout the nation. Let’s plug in and put in time and effort to support the infrastructure in place. Let’s man the hotlines, help cure ballots, help people get to their correct polling places, and be ready to respond to real-time problems.
We also need to let friends and neighbors know what to expect and get prepared!

GOP Voter Suppression Moves

  • In February, Trump said his administration should “take over the voting” and “nationalize elections.”
  • On March 31st 2026, Trump signed an Executive Order banning mail-in voting, just days after mailing in his ballot for a special election.
  • His Executive Order also created a national database of electors called “State Citizenship Lists.” The  Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Social Security Administration (SSA) are directed to compile a list of voting-age citizens who reside in each state.
  • The Executive Order mandated that states to submit to the USPS “a list of voters eligible to vote in a federal election who may receive a mail-in ballot.

Progressive wins Mikie Sherril's seat by 20 points

Mejia won on a very progressive/socialist platform by 20 points in a district that Kamala Harris won by 9 points.
4-18-26

Taylor won her seat by a 60-40 margin. The WI Supreme Court now has a 5-2 democratic majority. That can have an impact on  protecting free & fair elections.
Taylor won at least 24 Trump-won counties, including rural counties.
4-8-26

Georgia’s 14th congressional district, one of the most conservative in the country, saw Rep. Clay Fuller win 56-44. Trump beat Harris in this district by nearly 40 percentage points in 2024.
4-8-26

Democrat Emily Gregory, a first-time candidate, won a special election to represent Florida’s 87th House District, a seat that includes President Donald Trump’s Mar‑a‑Lago resort in Palm Beach County. She flipped a Republican-held district that Trump carried by double digits.

3-26-26

Democrat Brian Nathan, a union organizer, Navy veteran and first-time candidate, won a tight race in FL Senate District 14.
3-26-26

Democrat Bobbi Boudman flipped a Republican-held New Hampshire House seat in Carroll County District 7. The district is typically considered a GOP stronghold and voted for Donald Trump in 2020 and 2024.

3-11-26

in Texas, Dem Christian Menefee won a U.S. House seat,

Demt Taylor Rehmet won Texas State Senate District 9 57-43 in Tarrant County, which Trump carried by 17 points. Republicans outspent Democrats by 20 to 1 in the runup to that election. This swing of 32 points from Trump’s 2024 performance is the largest Democratic overperformance in a competitive special election since Trump took office.

2-1-26

Democrat Alex Holladay won a Republican-held seat in the Arkansas statehouse.
3-3-26

Abigail Spanberger wins by a 58-42 margin becoming the first female governor of VA. This was the largest margin of victory in the last 65 years.

11-4-24

VA delivered a trifecta giving democrats a majority in the state house, state senate, and governor’s office. This is the largest majority in the VA House of Delegates in nearly 40 years.

After strong Republican performances in the state in 2021 and 2024, many Republicans said they were going to win this race. Polls suggested the election was a toss-up. However, Sherrill won by 14%.

11-5-24

34-year-old Mamdani wins with 50.78% in a three way race. One of the youngest mayor’s in NYC’s history, he is the first South Asian and Muslim elected to this office.

Both Democrats ousted the Republican incumbent with 635 of the vote. Georgia’s Public Service Commission had been made up of five Republicans, and a three-member GOP majority will remain. Alicia Johnson will become the first Black woman elected to a partisan office statewide in Georgia.

11-4-25

Democrat Catelin Drey flipped a Sioux City-area state Senate seat, breaking the Republican supermajority.

8-25

Register New Voters

In the 2024 presidential election, 74% of eligible voters were registered. 65% of the eligible population voted.  That leaves 82 million people who are eligible to vote and are not voting. That number is higher than the total amount of people who voted for either candidate in 2024.

Democracy requires active participation to work. Younger people who move more frequently lose their registration status. Different states have different ID rules. Voting for the first time can seem daunting to people. Voter apathy IS REAL!

Let’s make sure people know if they are registered or not, that everyone has what they need to find their polling locations, and help people understand that their vote DOES matter!
